Health and Safety in Schools
Who is responsible for Health and Safety in School?
The employer - if the school is local authority this will be the local council, if the school is Independant an Academy or part of an Academy Trust then the CEO or whoever holds this role under different title but has operational overall responsibility is legally responsible for health and safety.

What health and safety responsibilities do teachers have?
Teachers like any other employees have the responsibility to follow the health and safety instruction, information and training they are given by their employer.

What Risk Assessments does a School need?
Schools should have a risk assessment that covers the school, its regular daily operation and activities, Schools should also risk assess their of premises activities but it is important noty to get weighed down by paper work. A good quality school risk assessment only needs to be 2-3 pages maximum and must be reviewed annually, following accidents or near misses or where there are any significant changes.
